The Grade Nine Orientation will be held on Thursday, August 31 from 10:30 am to noon. Students will meet in the gym at 10:30, experience activities with student council, tour their classes, and put their locks on lockers.

Parents and guardians can come to the auditorium at 10:30 to learn about all the amazing opportunities at Adam Scott CVI.

As we look towards the end of Semester 1, we are preparing for exams for Gr. 11 and 12 students, and culminating tasks for Gr. 9 and 10 students.

At Adam Scott CVI, we believe that formal exams and culminating tasks are an intrinsic part of the learning process and give students the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills that they have gained.

Our exams & culminating tasks will now begin on Friday, Jan. 26 and end on Wed. Jan. 31, 2024. This is a slight date change from previous announcements. 

During Exam Time:

1. All students are to be in class no later than 8:35am so that they are ready when the bell goes to write their exam (or culminating task).
2. Thursday, Jan. 25 is a regular full day of school with a regular schedule.
3. Library and Resource areas are closed during Exam Time (students who require accommodations are using these spaces to write exams and culminating tasks).
4. The cafeteria food service is closed from January 26 until Monday, Feb. 5.  
5. School buses run during exams on their ‘normal’ schedule.
6. Parents are encouraged to pick up their students as soon as their exams / culminating tasks are done (any time from 10:00 am on).

To prepare for Exams and Culminating Tasks, encourage your child to:

1. speak with their classroom teacher about any questions they have
2. participate in exam review & study tips with their classroom teacher
3. attend Homework Club on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school in the Library from 3:00-4:15 from now until January 24

If you have any questions about your child’s exam or culminating task, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.

If there is a ‘snow day / busses cancelled’ day during Exams, the schedule moves one day forward. For example, if buses are cancelled on Monday, Jan. 29, then the Period 2 exams/culminating tasks will happen on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and the Period 3 exams/culminating tasks will happen on Wednesday, Jan. 31 and Period 4 exams/culminating tasks will happen on Thurs. Adam Scott Secondary School is hosting a Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life event at our school to support all Canadians who are fighting or have fought Cancer. This year’s event is dedicated to one of our own, math teacher Maeghan Amaral, who is currently battling breast cancer.

 Relay For Life is a global movement to end cancer. It is active in 29 countries and 6,000 communities worldwide. Relay For Life brings together students, teachers, family members, and friends to celebrate cancer survivors with a Survivors’ Lap and to honour the memory of loved ones with a special Luminary Ceremony. 

Our event this year takes place on June 11th.
On this day, Adam Scott will unite in this movement with other schools across the country and make a difference by fundraising in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Adam Scott would like to invite all of those from our school community who have survived Cancer or are currently fighting to join us and be recognized on this day.

If you, or someone in your family, is a cancer survivor or currently battling cancer and would like to join us at our event and participate in our survivors’ lap, we would be honoured to have you. Please send an email to darcy_wight@kprdsb.ca to let us know you intend to come. Opening ceremonies are at 11:00 and will be immediately followed by the first lap of the track, led by survivors.

Dear Parents and Guardians of Gr. 9-12 Students,

Semester 2 Final Report Cards for Gr. 9-12 Adam Scott students are available in Edsby. Please see the attached instructions for how to view Report Cards in Edsby. If you would like a paper copy of the report card, our school office is open until the morning of Friday, July 5 from 8am to 11am. Since all schools are closed for the summer, please contact your child’s teacher in September if you have any questions. Our school office will be closed from Monday, July 8 until Thursday, August 22 for summer holidays.

We will be welcoming Gr. 9 students and their parents/guardians on the morning of Wed. August 28 for a tour and information session. More details will be sent out once our office is open in late August.

Dear Families,  

I write this letter with a heavy heart. Kevin Robinson, one of our beloved staff members, and a dedicated and long-time English Teacher and Lead Teacher, died suddenly on July 10^th.     

We all are deeply saddened by this loss. Kevin was a dynamic and charismatic English and Film studies teacher who shared his passion for literature and films with our students. His love for words and media was a catalyst to inspire his students. Kevin was the driving force behind the creation of both a Film Studies course and an Indigenous Studies and Perspectives in a Global Context Film Studies course. In addition, Kevin’s empathy for his students made his classroom safe and welcoming to all. Kevin loved his job and the students he worked with, and we will miss him dearly.  In his 27 years with KPR schools -- and 17 of them at Adam Scott CVI -- he deeply touched the lives of so many past and present students, as well as staff who counted themselves lucky to work alongside him. Kevin created lasting memories for all of us. 

We understand that this loss will be difficult for our students, staff and community who have known Kevin for years. As a school community, we are here to support one another and want to remind everyone of the resources available, such as Talk Now (please see attachment) and the Kids Help Phone Line https://kidshelpphone.ca/ . In addition, we will have counsellors at Adam Scott CVI on the first day of school in September, and for as long as they are needed, to support students who may still be processing their grief.  Please contact the office at the end of August if your child would like to access this support at school. 

To honour Kevin’s passing, we will be lowering our school flag to half-mast.  

I am sure you join all of us at Adam Scott in offering our deepest condolences to Kevin’s family and friends.

Hello, parents and guardians of Adam Scott students.

A thank you on behalf of Kevin Robinson’s entire family for the outpouring of support, the flowers and the kindness everyone has shown.

As we continue to work through our grief and honour our memories of a beloved teacher, all are welcome to Mr. Robinson’s visitation on Monday, July 29 from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre at 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough. There will be a private funeral for the family the following day.

Also attached is a reminder about free therapeutic support available through the Talk Now Walk in Clinic (expanded hours of walk in at hospital or virtual support). This clinic provides immediate services to kids and adults in need of therapeutic support. This service is offered by community partners - Peterborough Regional Health Services, CMHA, Kinark and PYS. There is no wait for services, and students can access support as often as they would like over the entire summer.
