I graduated from the University of Guelph in 1995 with an Honours BA in History. In 1997 I went to Teacher's College in Edinburgh, Scotland. Over the last sixteen years I have enjoyed teaching a great variety of courses in the Canadian and World Studies Department. I have also coached boys and girls rugby during that time.

I was born and raised in Peterborough and the Kawarthas, and am very familiar with the Adam Scott community. As an elementary school student, I attended several of Adam Scott's feeder schools: Queen Elizabeth, Chemong, R.F. Downey and Adam Scott Intermediate. As a high school student, I attended ASCVI, PCVS and TASSS. After completing my Honours B.A. and B.Ed. degrees through the Trent-Queen's concurrent education program, I began my career as a secondary school teacher at ASCVI in 1990, where I taught English and Dramatic Arts and directed dramatic productions until 1994. I then accepted a secondary teaching position at LDISS which lasted until 2007, where I directed multiple school plays, and also facilitated and participated in a plethora of arts initiatives in the school and community. After leaving LDSS, I had opportunity to teach in secondary schools in the YRDSB and TDSB, including Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts, initiating a karaoke club in each school, prior to returning to KPRDSB at BHS where I taught English, Dramatic and Visual Arts from 2009 to 2014, as well as directing a school play and other arts performances. Returning to ASCVI for the duration of my teaching career is like coming home. I am excited to once again be a member of this school's vibrant teaching staff after a two decade hiatus. I hope to continue to find new opportunities for personal and professional growth as I share my experience and enthusiasm for learning with staff and students beyond my teaching specialists in English and Dramatic Arts.

Guidance And Career Education

Hi! My name is Jen Nugent - known to most as "Nuge" - and I've been teaching for the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board since September 2007. During my undergrad at Trent University, I majored in Theatre and English, as well as participated in a number of school organizations and extracurriculars focused on leadership and community building. After completing my teaching degree at Queen's University, I returned to my hometown of Peterborough to begin my career, which has spanned numerous subjects, as well as numerous schools. Despite having lived here my entire life, I'm an avid traveller, having visited almost every continent at least once (so far!). I'm passionate about the arts (Musical Theatre, in particular), Outdoor Education (especially canoe trips), and teaching. Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me! :o) For school work, visit http://jennugent.weebly.com/ For information about my theatre company, Enter Stage Right, visit http://enterstagerightptbo.weebly.com/ For information about my involvement in Outdoor Education, visit http://kenneroutdoored.weebly.com/

I have been teaching Science, Geography and Special Education in the KPR for the past 10 years. I began my career at Clarke High School and then moved on to Bowmanville High School. I live in Peterborough and I am a graduate of Adam Scott Intermediate and Adam Scott CVI, so it is nice to be "home" again. I believe that "being scientific" or thinking critically, is a part of every day life. We have an abundance of information at our fingertips, and if we do not know how to be critical of what we see and hear, we can be easily lead astray. I consider myself a bit of a nerd. I love Sci-Fi and comics. The explosion of comic adaptation movies is amazing! If you want to talk Marvel or DC, come find me. I am one of the Cross-Country team coaches at Adam Scott, so come join us for a great way to stay in shape, make new friends and compete on some very challenging courses in the Central Ontario Secondary School Athletics (COSSA) region. Welcome to Adam Scott...GO LIONS!

English

I began my teaching career in 1990 in Toronto where I taught English and Computers before teaching Communication Technology (in the very early days) in the "CyberArts" program at Don Mills CVI. I moved up to Peterborough in 1996 where I taught Communication Technology at PCVS and coached rowing, mountain biking, and Nordic skiing. Film and animation were two of the key focuses of our program there and I was always proud of my students and their work which won many awards. I have seen many of my former students launch careers, in film, animation, game design, and advertising. When PCVS was repurposed I moved to Adam Scott (where I had taught a single English course in 1996). I've taught a wide variety of courses at Adam Scott and have teamed up with Mr Mann to run the Adam Scott Mountain Bike Club (which also fundraisers for the CMHA in "Paul's Dirty Enduro" -- make sure you register: http://www.paulsdirtyenduro.ca/) and the Adam Scott Nordic Ski Team (which has the coolest Jerseys and is the school's fastest competitive sport). We continue to have a very strong and successful team. As a fan of animation of animation and satire, I am a fan of The Simpsons (the first 9 seasons) and South Park (the latter years). Key episodes or scenes are occasionally used in my classes to enhance student learning. I love cycling (road and mountain), Nordic skiing (skating and classic), snowboarding, white water kayaking and canoeing. As a student of current brain science, I strongly enforce the "Not out, not on" policy of cell phones in class. I request that students keep their cell phones in their lockers or deep packed beyond reach. I'm finding that in this age of technological distractions, developing student concentration and focus is increasingly important to their success. My favourite part of teaching is the many interesting and amazing young people I meet every day. They're our future and the most important things in our lives.

Hello! My name is Alexander Keay but in true Scottish fashion, I'm known as 'Sandy' in and around Adam Scott. I am a proud Adam Scott grad (2nd generation) and also proud that my kids attend Adam Scott (3rd generation). I have been a teacher at Adam Scott since 2002. I am one of the girls' and boys' rugby coaches, and I currently teach science but have also taught math in years gone by. I look forward to working with you and your students this year. Please don't hesitate to contact me with your questions or concerns. If you're wondering about my profile picture, that's what you get when you're dared to eat a meal worm.
